It's Friday and I'm sitting in my apartment, watching Roseanne. This show is so amazing. When I was a little girl in south Texas, I watched this show religiously; I still do. When I was a kid, I loved TV. Family shows like Roseanne and The Cosby Show were so influential to me, they made me dream of trying to do that one day. As a kid living in a border town of Texas/Mexico, it seemed so far-fetched but I crazily enough decided to chase after that dream and now here I am, many years later, looking over fonts to help pick what the logo for the Cristela pilot will look like.
What a weird paragrah I just wrote...
I've been very busy lately, lots of meetings, lots of emails. I love being this busy though. Doing this kind of work, (actor, comic, writer, etc.) you're so used to NOT being busy and doing work for free that it's crazy to think that you'll ever be in a position where people actually want to hear your thoughts and opinions about things.
This week, I had a production meeting with the set decorator, set designer and wardrobe department. It was so surreal to be at the meeting and have this people show me what my TV house and TV life will look like on set. I don't want to say too much about it but I'll say this: I LOVE how it looks. The furniture looks like stuff that real people use. It looks like what a blue collar family would live in. I LOVE IT.
Which leads me to the point of this quick post. If you would love to see what my TV life would be like (and meet my TV family) I got ticket info for the pilot taping.
With this pilot, I'm attempting to bring a family show that will focus on a Latino family. I want to tell a story about a family that is trying to get by, a family that loves each other, a family that everyone can relate to. I think this show could be great not only for the Latino community...but also for people that are craving a show that is a throwback to shows we grew up with....
And most importantly, more than anything in the world, I'd love to do a show that could possibly inspire other little kids living in small towns across the country feel like they're capable of chasing after a dream and achieving it...just like Roseanne and The Cosby Show did for me.
If you can make it to the taping, I would LOVE to have you there.
This has been a lifetime in the making.
