I tweeted it. I Facebooked it. Now, I must blog about it with pictures!!! A lot of things happened at the Grammys last night. These were the moments that made me laugh, cry and everything in between. Enjoy!
GRAMMY MOMENT #5: PAUL MCCARTNEY'S INTRO BY LL COOL J
Best line of the night, hands down. He said it and I instantly laughed. He's an OG that's been knighted. Never thought I would ever hear those words together in the same sentence.
GRAMMY MOMENT #4: TAYLOR SWIFT'S SURPRISED FACE #284!
I've seen Taylor Swift at the awards shows. I really couldn't tell you one song she sings but I know that they're all about this one guy that keeps breaking up with her. She's won so many awards, you would think she'd FINALLY meet someone that didn't treat her so bad but whatever. I made this montage of her surprised face. They were REALLY easy to find. I stopped myself because there were so many that it could've gone on forever.
She keeps winning awards. How many do you have to win for you to NOT be surprised by it? She always looks like someone just gave her a puppy.
GRAMMY MOMENT #3: WILLIE NELSON'S CHIPOTLE COMMERCIAL
This wasn't part of the Grammys but this awards show is kinda like the Super Bowl for commercials with musicians. This was a weird ad. Cool...but weird. I had no idea what it was about until the end. If you haven't watched it, please check out the link; it's kind of unreal.
There is a farmer with animals. The animals die. I thought it was a PETA commercial and then at the end I see the Chipotle logo. It was really a whole lot of stuff going on.
GRAMMY MOMENT #2: NICKI MINAJ'S BLASPHEMOUS HIGH SCHOOL PLAY
I'll go ahead and say it. I don't get Nicki Minaj. She's a rapper, right? If she is, she shouldn't be singing. Rappers rarely do well with the singing part. Remember Kanye with 808s & Heartbreak? Didn't do well. Great rapper but he's no Billy Ocean (Ha! Old reference!) I would've included the link to her performance but I like you people too much to do that to you; you haven't done anything wrong that deserves punishment. I'll describe it, it'll hurt less. Nicki Minaj is at Grammy confession and then remembers that it's opening night of her high school musical "Godspell;" she has to get ready. Minaj got the lead role because her mother obviously made the costumes for the play and not for her singing ability as we later see when they start the play. Hmm, I need to stop describing this, I'm making it sound too good.
All you need to know is that she arrived at the Grammys looking like Little Red Riding Hood and after that performance, I'm pretty sure that if she's on her way to her grandmother's house, the door will be locked because nana will be trying to avoid her and pretend that she isn't related to her.
GRAMMY MOMENT #1: JENNIFER HUDSON'S TRIBUTE TO WHITNEY HOUSTON
No joke. This was the best part of the night. If you go on YouTube, you'll see people writing comments about how Jennifer Hudson couldn't sing it like Whitney Houston. These people have no idea what they're saying. An artist doesn't try to replicate the work of someone else. An artist is supposed to be themselves and let the world see them, not see them trying to be someone there not.
Whitney Houston was an amazing talent. No one can sing like her. Whitney passed away the day before the telecast of the show. They found someone to do a tribute to Whitney Houston that was close to what Whitney represented: a young, black woman that had a natural talent and doesn't need any bells and whistles to get people's attention.
Jennifer Hudson almost cried at several times throughout the performance; she couldn't keep it in during rehearsal. The moment she finished, she tried looking for someone to escort her off the stage. She didn't know what to do. I can't imagine what was going through her head.
She was a contestant on American Idol....that didn't win...and ended up getting this career because she was good. She has something special. I'm sure she never expected any of this to happen. People normally don't. She had a big responsibility last night and I think she did it beautifully. I'll use what I wrote on Facebook here: his girl has taught us one important lesson: you don't have to win American Idol...to be a star.
Hope you liked my recap. Let me know if I missed a big moment. There were a lot of cool moments in the show, I just decided to go with the top five that I remembered. Have a great Monday! I get to see The Voice and Purrfect the Cat so I'm happy.
